Best Burgers in Singapore Under $20

Best Burgers in Singapore Under $20

Oh, the joy of biting into a heavenly burger. The bun flecked with sesame, firm enough so it doesn’t fall apart and yet not too doughy. Melting cheese creating a wonderful gooey mess. Toppings to give it the crunch and the piece de resistance – the patty. Juicy meat seared on a hot grill and cooked just right so that it doesn’t become too chewy. The patty is undoubtedly the star of the show in the world of blockbuster burgers. Get it right and you know that you have a superhit on your hands.

In search for the best burger in Singapore, I went across the island and tried every place that was said to be noteworthy (and then some). With so many fabulous options around, it is difficult to choose the best. But when the craving strikes, you deserve to go somewhere that you know you will get a burger that will blow your mind. And what could be better if it came with a price tag below $20? I for one find it difficult to truly enjoy burgers that cost an arm and a leg. Burgers are meant to be low-maintenance, and gluttony is best enjoyed when it doesn’t break the bank.

Here are 5 burgers in Singapore under $20 that you are sure to love.

5. Best burgers in Singapore: Wolf Burgers

This tiny stall that is Wolf Burgers in PasarBella Suntec City is a hot favourite with locals and tourists alike. The menu lists out various options including a crunchy buttermilk fried chicken burger, but the burger hunt was all about an all-beef burger. And The Wolf, the namesake burger of the joint, does not disappoint. At $9.90 it is a steal, though fries and drinks are extra. If you want to go all out, I recommend The Mighty Alpha, which at $14.90 is still within our range and features a double patty drenched in cheese.  PasarBella has a fun hippie vibe, grab a sangria from the drinks counter to go with your burger and it’s a happy day!

Address: 3 Temasek Blvd, 455-456 / 459-461 Suntec City  |  #01-43, Changi City Point, 5 Changi Business Park Central 1, Singapore

4. Best burgers in Singapore: Roadhouse (permanently closed)

Tucked into a corner of Dempsey Hill, Roadhouse is an American diner that serves burgers as well as fare such as fish and chips and a fabulous kids menu. The burger options are plenty but my favourites are the Pulled Pork ($22) and the classic beef burger called Basic Instinct ($10/ $18 for Wagyu). The portion is just right to fill you up and the fries on the side are insanely addictive. They do promotional lunch pricing too.

3. Best burgers in Singapore: Two Blur Guys

If you were walking on this street, you would miss this nondescript gem that is whispered about in the connoisseur circles. The hole-in-the-wall outlet at Tanjong Pagar doesn’t get many points for its cramped space but they know their burgers well. The Prime Beef with Streaky Bacon Burger ($17.95) comes with a side salad. At first glance, the burger may seem small but it is filling and will leave you satisfied. The wholemeal buns hold their own and toppings include fresh tomato, gruyere cheese, gherkins and a truffle infused mayonnaise made inhouse. The passion behind the outlet shines through the quality of meat used in the patty. It will have you coming back for more.

PS- They also have a selection of great craft beers to pair with the burgers. Evening plan sorted?

 2. Best burgers in Singapore: Working Title (permanently closed)

The name of this restaurant (if we can call it that) had my interest piqued. This grungy space below a hostel on Arab Street is not your typical restaurant or burger joint. It is somewhat the underbelly of Singapore (if the city has one) and has an unmistakable hipster vibe. Yet, this large garage like space is perfect to rest your feet for a bit if you’re in the vicinity or if you’re in the mood for some kickass burgers (halal certified). The lunch deal gives you a drink free, so time your visit well. Baconator ($20) is exactly what is promised, a killer burger featuring turkey bacon (they had us at bacon). The Swiss cheese melting over the burger begs for you to stop staring and dig right in. The fries served on the side are yum too. I had a luscious Café Mocha on the side and cannot wait to head back and try all the other burgers (Holy Guacamole, I have my eyes on you).

1. Best burgers in Singapore: Huber’s Butchery and Bistro

And finally – the winner of my 4-month long burger hunt is… (*drumroll*).. Huber’s Butchery and Bistro at Dempsey Hill. And it really is a no-brainer, who else could it be but the very people committed to providing supreme quality meat products to the city? The menu at Huber’s is uninspiring, but keep your eyes on the burger and you’ll be rewarded. The 100% pure Australian beef patty is the star, as it should be, topped with caramelized onions and crispy bacon. If you have visitors in town craving a good burger, close your eyes and go eat at Huber’s. You can thank me later.

Address: 22 Dempsey Rd, Singapore

The burger hunt also had some near-misses that made it to the list like Fat Boy’s (too commercial and not memorable enough) and Burger Joint. I loved the mystery of the latter, the entire hidden-behind-a-red-curtain scene, but for me the lack of seasoning in the patty was a let-down. It may be the best burger in New York, but hey, Singapore’s got better.

If burgers have filled you up enough, time for something a bit more healthy. Try some poke
