Best luxury hotel in Singapore for a period stay: Raffles Hotel

Raffles Hotel Singapore – by Yeowatzup

Raffles Hotel is a true Singaporean icon, and a 125 year old must-see. With a beautifully crafted exterior matching the ornate interior, Raffles Hotel luxuriously transports you to Singapore’s past. We were delighted with box-TV sets and noisy pipes, it reminded of the history this building comes with. Some of the excellent butlers have served for decades, and we couldn’t leave without doing some arcade shopping.

Before Singapore began reclaiming land, Raffles Hotel was located by the sea. Now, it sits in on the edge of the Central Business District, towards Bugis. Bugis is full of heritage and is close to Kampong Glam, an area full of culture and home to tourist attractions. There is much to do at Raffles Hotel, from trying the famous Singapore Sling to having a Tiffin brunch with Colonial Indian dishes. The experience justifies the high rate of over $600 a night, the highest in Singapore. The combination of history and warm hospitality makes Raffles Hotel worth an indulgent visit.

This elegant glass building is known for its sophisticated rooftop bar Lantern, offering drinks with a panoramic view of the marina. Their pool is on the rooftop as well, perfect for an afternoon dip. Before our days as a bustling port terminal, boats would use the Singapore River and stop at the docks to sell their products. "luxury hotel singapore, guide, travel, holiday, singaporenbeyond"

Fullerton Hotel – by Nicolas Lannuzel

The Fullerton Hotel was originally Singapore’s post office. After renovations and the addition of a rooftop jacuzzi, the Fullerton Hotel has become a landmark between the central business district and the mouth of the river. Its eye catching exterior wouldn’t look out of place in Paris, and the rooms are an earthly beige decorated with marble. White washed windows open into balconies, and the mezzanine levelled pool offers a view of Boat Quay. The hotel offers free tours of the area, which includes The Fullerton Bay, the Clifford Room, the port, and various room viewings. Don’t miss a meal at The Lighthouse, located in the hotel’s tower. In the 18th Century, it used to be an actual lighthouse guiding ships to port. We also recommend upgrading your room to one with access to The Straits Club, the champagne breakfast is excellent.
