Despite its fame for being the world’s most expensive city, Singapore offers many exciting activities that are completely free. Pub quizzes, movie screenings, and rooftops with a view are just some of the options.

Free meal at the Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery

This monastery is widely unknown – even among Singaporeans. However, already the magnificent building itself is worth the trip to Bishan. As in Buddhism giving is more important than receiving, the monastery offers visitors of all religions a free vegetarian meal.

Free concerts at the Esplanade

Singapore’s most famous jazz band, the Steve McQueens, and others frequently play free concerts right next to the bay alongside Esplanade. Besides the spectacular outdoor venue, there are, occasionally, concerts at a smaller venues in the entrance hall of the Theatres. Check schedules to not miss out.

Free movie screenings under the stars

Beat the cold of Singapore’s cinemas and join MovieMob by Ape. Follow their Facebook page to get to know dates, locations, and films. They organise at least a monthly free outdoor screening somewhere in Singapore. Bring a blanket and some snacks to be extra comfy under the stars.

Pub Quiz

Fun pub quizzes are held weekly at the Prince of Wales

Gather a couple of friends or join another team at the free pub quizzes across town. Quizmaster Collin hosts fun and entertaining quizzes four times a week – Molly Malone’s (Mon), Prince of Wales Boat Quay (Tues), Prince of Wales Little India (Wed), and Muddy Murphy’s (Thurs). If you are the lucky winner, you will get a bucket of beer and eternal glory.

ION Orchard

While most people only reference Marina Bay Sands and 1-Altitude when it comes to rooftops with a view, there are many more options to explore city views. Many of Singapore’s shopping centres, such as Orchard Central and ION Orchard, offer a very different perspective of the city – all for free.

Light shows by the bay

The lights go on every single day. The light show at Marina Bay, including music and fire, ignites twice a day at 8pm and 9pm. It can be seen from anywhere around the bay, but is best observed at the Shoppes, as you will be closer to the fire show. The second show is underneath the Supertrees in the Gardens by the Bay. The Garden Rhapsody starts at 7.45pm every evening and is best seen lying on your back. If you’re interested to find out more about light show, we’ve got you covered here!
